About SparkAir

Q1

Are you licensed to do both electrical and air conditioning work?

Yes. SparkAir is a Victorian Registered Electrical Contractor (REC 37544) and holds an ARCtick refrigeration licence (L214305). All work is carried out under Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 3000 for electrical and AS/NZS 5149 for refrigeration.

Q2

What areas of Melbourne do you cover?

We service Melbourne CBD and surrounding suburbs across the inner city, eastern, northern, southern and western regions. If you're not sure whether we cover your suburb, call and ask.

Q3

Do you work on both homes and small commercial sites?

Yes. We handle residential work and small commercial projects — offices, cafes, shops and body-corporate common areas.

Q4

Do you issue an Electrical Safety Certificate?

Yes. Prescribed electrical work is certified on completion under Energy Safe Victoria requirements. You'll receive a copy for your records.

Safety and faults

Q1

My safety switch keeps tripping. What should I do?

You can try to reset it once. If it trips again immediately, leave it off and call an electrician — the RCD is doing its job and there's a genuine fault on the circuit.

Q2

How often should I test my safety switch?

Push the Test button on each RCD every few months. If it doesn't trip, or won't reset, book an electrician to check the device.

Q3

How often should smoke alarms be replaced?

Every 10 years. The sensor degrades over time and can't be renewed by changing the battery.

Switchboards, safety switches and installations

Q1

How do I know if I need a switchboard upgrade?

Ceramic fuses instead of breakers, missing RCDs, repeated tripping, warm or discoloured components, or no spare capacity for new circuits are all signs. We assess before recommending.

Q2

Do I need to upgrade my switchboard before installing an EV charger or air conditioner?

Sometimes. It depends on spare capacity, RCD protection and main supply. If the board can safely take the new circuit, an upgrade isn't required.

Q3

Can I add extra powerpoints without rewiring the whole room?

Usually yes. We can run a new spur or short circuit from a nearby suitable point, or from the switchboard where needed.

Q4

Can DIY electrical work be legal in Victoria?

No. In Victoria, electrical work — including replacing powerpoints, switches and hardwired fittings — must be carried out by a licensed electrician.

Air conditioning and appliances

Q1

Do you install both the refrigeration and the electrical side of a split system?

Yes. We hold both the ARCtick refrigeration licence (L214305) and the electrical contractor licence (REC 37544), so pipework, refrigerant and electrical work are done in-house.

Q2

What size split system do I need?

It depends on floor area, ceiling height, window area, orientation and insulation. We size on the actual room, not a rule of thumb.

Q3

Does an induction cooktop need a dedicated circuit?

Yes. Induction cooktops draw high current and need a dedicated circuit sized to the appliance rating, with the correct isolator.

Q4

Can you install a ceiling fan where there's currently just a light?

Usually yes. Existing wiring can often be reused, but the mounting point needs to be upgraded to a fan-rated fixing.

Rentals and compliance

Q1

How often is an electrical safety check required for Victorian rentals?

At least every two years, carried out by a licensed electrician, under the Residential Tenancies Regulations 2021.

Q2

Who is responsible for arranging the rental safety check?

The rental provider (landlord) arranges and pays for the check and keeps a copy of the report.

Q3

Can the electrical and smoke alarm checks be done at the same visit?

Yes. Combining the two reduces tenant access time and the total cost.

Q4

Do you work with property managers on scheduled inspections?

Yes. We can set up recurring inspections across a portfolio and coordinate tenant access.
